As we move forward in Women’s Month here in South Africa, The Empathologist Foundation is both excited and deeply committed to the work being done to support individuals in vulnerable circumstances, particularly those facing parenthood challenges. We are encouraged by the progress we’ve made and the amazing organizations we’ve had the privilege to collaborate with, such as NorSa, ABBA, Wandisa, and Kethani. These partnerships have been invaluable, and it’s been an incredible experience working with the managers and social workers who are dedicated to making a difference across various municipalities in the Western Cape and beyond.
So far, we’ve been able to enroll one of our beneficiaries in a course that will empower her to pursue a career in frail care, a field she’s passionate about. This opportunity will not only allow her to care for her family but also to contribute to her community in a meaningful way.
We’ve also supported a mother who, at the last moment, chose to keep her child rather than place him for adoption. We were able to provide essential items like nappies, formula, and warm clothing, and we continue to assist her in finding employment as a carer. If anyone knows of job opportunities in Cape Town, please reach out!
Additionally, we’re thrilled to have supported another woman who, after intensive training, secured a job at a call center but faced challenges covering her transport costs for the first month. We were happy to assist her, ensuring that she could fully focus on her new role and invest in her future. It’s important to remember that securing a job is just the beginning; for many in our country, even basic necessities like transportation can be a significant hurdle.
In our ongoing efforts to improve our work with parents, we participated in the BuildSmart Parenting workshop by Ezrah Community Training and Development. This workshop equips community facilitators with the skills to conduct sessions with parents and children, fostering positive caregiving and resilience. It has deepened our understanding of the ethics of parent mentoring and the importance of building a strong foundation for children’s development through positive discipline.
We are incredibly grateful for the strong women we’ve encountered along our journey—whether in partnering organizations, workshops, or NGOs—and for the impact they have in improving the communities they serve.
Thank you to our donors for your unwavering support in making all of this possible. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.
