Projects
The inaugural initiative of the foundation, known as “The Olive Branch Initiative”, is a testament to our dedication. Through this initiative, we aim to support biological mothers who have chosen adoption for their children. This initiative acknowledges the unique and often complex challenges faced by these mothers, recognizing that their needs extend far beyond the immediate circumstances of adoption. Many biological mothers may find themselves grappling with feelings of grief, loss, and uncertainty following the adoption process, as well as navigating the emotional and practical aspects of their lives post-adoption. Therefore, The Olive Branch Initiative seeks to provide comprehensive support tailored to these specific needs, encompassing not only emotional healing and empowerment but also practical assistance in areas such as counselling, legal guidance, healthcare access, and vocational training.
Launching in June 2025, Thrift & Thrive is an initiative developed in collaboration with Khethani Women’s Wellness. Based in Somerset West, it is both a retail training centre and a second-hand store designed to create real opportunities for women with limited access to education and employment. Through a eight-week, hands-on retail training programme, each intake supports two women, one from each organisation, building confidence, practical skills, and pathways into work. At the same time, donated goods are distributed to those in need through a voucher system, while carefully curated pre-loved items are sold to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.
If you have quality pre-loved clothing you no longer need, we warmly invite you to donate or visit us at 63 Caledon Street, Somerset West. Our training centre and store are located at the back of the building, with convenient parking available. Your visit helps support our programme, and gives you the chance to see, first-hand, how meaningful change takes shape.
Our Women Empowerment Groups, developed in collaboration with Khethani Women Wellness, create a supportive space where women can pause, reflect, and reconnect with their own strength. Launched in August to mark Women’s Month in South Africa, the first group was a six-week journey facilitated by coach Frances Fuchs and our Director, Jose Olcina. Meeting every Saturday, participants gathered in a circle of trust to share experiences, set personal and professional goals, and support one another. The group chose its own name, Women Rule, a powerful reflection of collective ownership and confidence.
Seven women began the programme; four were able to complete it, navigating life’s realities alongside the process. The outcomes, however, were deeply meaningful. One participant, Veronica, is now preparing to launch her own business, MaVero Catering, with our ongoing support. Some women move forward quickly, others need more time, and some step away when circumstances become too heavy. Empowerment is not linear, it is built over time, through presence, resilience, and connection. Every journey matters.
The Baby Nursery and Girls’ Club House, The Voice of an Angel, began with our first meeting with Ms. P in March 2025. At the time, she was already running a small Girls’ Club House in her community in Delft and mentoring girls aged 9 to 16, supporting them to stay in school, build self-esteem, and make informed choices about their futures. While we immediately supported this existing work, it quickly became clear that Ms. P’s deepest passion lay in caring for young children.
To strengthen her skills and formalise her vision, we enrolled her in an Early Childhood Development course at Oasis Training Centre. In October, Ms. P successfully completed the programme, graduating with the Best Practical Performance Award. From that moment on, the focus shifted to making her long-held dream a reality. Through months of planning, setbacks, and perseverance, we worked alongside Ms. P to build a combined nursery and Girls’ Club House in Delft. On 12 December, just before the festive season, The Voice of an Angel structure was finally built and the materials purchased thanks to the support of the Spanish NGO Cada Día es Navidad (Every day is Christmas Day).
From January 2026, this space, affectionately managed by “Aunty P”, supports toddlers and 14 adolescent girls, offering a safe environment for care, learning, and growth, and standing as a testament to what becomes possible when local leadership is trusted and supported, and communities work together.
